All City Rally- Brian Cousineau

37 club members participated as either workers or entries for the pre-run held April 6. First place winners were Frank Zangar and his navigator, Frank Spikelmeyer. Frank Zangar also won the $20 cash prize drawing. The purpose of the pre-run was to shake out the wrinkles in the operations and the route. The route was well received by those who ran it and was deemed to be one of the best routes in recent memory. The technology using computers and the internet to record data and produce scoring results was fine-tuned and is expected to simplify and improve those processes. Route team leader, Duncan Johnson reports that comments received have been reviewed and implemented. The rally would benefit from a few more club members helping out to reduce the workload of those already committed. If your schedule permits, please consider offering your assistance for a few hours in the morning. Club members should arrive at Corvette and High Performance at 7:15AM on rally day (Sunday, the 20th) to begin the day’s activities.
There are a record 25 pre-registrations and Bob Hill reported his promotional contacts with several car clubs and expected participation by some of their respective members. Public service announcements are being aired on MIXX 96 FM and the Olympian is preparing a feature article. Hopefully, the article will include a photo submitted of members Jon Cox and Rich Sokso with their Corvettes and a Viper donated to automotive program at the college. The college has also sent a press release to the Olympian, which may be in the education section of the paper. It was also reported that Art Carter’s recently sold his ’60 Corvette which is covered with rally flyers in the showroom of sponsors and purchasers, Titus-Will Chevrolet.
There will be cake, coffee and water provided at the awards ceremony at the college. Several members volunteered to donate goods or money to cover the cost of these items. Thanks!

Events & Activities- Jon Cox

Jon distributed a printed handout and calendar with lots of fun events coming up this year. A couple of items were inadvertently left out: Corvette and High Performance Open House, Sept. 13 and the Mystery Tour, Oct. 5.
The recent Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast was successful. Jon Cox’s 2008 Atomic Orange roadster get the show trophy this year. The breakfast also provided an opportunity for the Rally Committee to promote All City Rally v.28.
    Coming up in May:
17th - All Corvette Show, Anacortes
25th - SW Washington Day Tour
Additional information on these events and many others is available on the club website and will soon be linked to Corvette and High Performance’s on-line events calendar.

Old Business

Meeting location- Special thanks to member Lee Cousineau for providing our meeting space at no charge this month. Our old site, Tumwater Valley is apparently still being remodeled and is anticipated to be prohibitively expensive when completed. Several options were discussed for a more permanent site. Most contain some form of fee structure with or without a meal as part of the requirement. Jon Cox reported that Cabella’s has a meeting room area that can accommodate a group of our size. There is a $25 fee and at least one person must order food. The club voted to try Cabela’s next month. A minor hitch is that we will have to change our meeting day to either the 13th or the 15th, depending on availability. The room was already booked for the 14th, our normal meeting day.

New Business

Frankie Sokso is already working on securing a location for our club Christmas Party. Many places are booked now.
Michael South is selling his ’92 Corvette. It’s in very good condition-call him if you’re interested.
Nick Strizic reported on the Ocean Shores Flag Day event, June 14th. Miss Washington will be the Grand Marshall and there will be a kite festival along with a dance at the Shilo Inn. Rumor has it that the PT Cruiser club will have more entries this year and there could be more of them than Corvettes.
Randy Harris reported on the Olympic Peninsula Tour, Aug. 9 & 10. If you’re planning on going, let Randy know now so he can negotiate room rates.

Adjournment and Raffle

President Peggy adjourned the meeting at 7:57PM. Sugar Murphy won a Corvette gift bag, Jane Elliott won a Corvette book and Sandi Strizic won the $24 in the raffle.
Next meeting will be at Cabela’s. Date to be confirmed by email but expected to be either Tuesday, May 13 or Thursday, May 15.

Respectfully submitted,
Larry Johnson
